Starcraft Universe Renamed

Once called World of Starcraft, it was later called Starcraft Universe (shortened to SCU).

And it has been shaping up well! Their development team has grown to quite a few people if you check out their forums. They even have ten man raid testing, although for the limitations of Starcraft 2 multiplayer that is likely the biggest raids will ever get.

Their item system is starting to look pretty nifty and resembling that of WoW now too!

They also have made changes to their save system so it would seem.

It is quite a feat to add such a new element to a classic game, and it does look like they would break new ground!

Linda Liao Pikachu Joins Razer

I guess this is pretty new but Linda Liao “pikachu” has joined Team Razer. If you didn’t know she’s a diamond player ranked #1 in the league (before masters were out I guess she is probably a master now) as well as winning the ESL female tournament where she had to beat out 31 other opponents (according to the source below, might be less).

As Razer’s site ‘delicately’ puts it:
She’s a versatile celebrity and she can kick your ass.

“I’ve been a fan of Razer products for a long time; they design the best gaming peripherals, which give me the competitive edge in my game,” says Linda. “To me, the collaboration with Razer is a mutual one, and becoming an official member of Team Razer is like a dream come true!”

She has an APM of about 220, which is also similar to what the other pro Korean player Fruit Dealer recommends players to have. As mentioned before she’s a protoss player, although the Pikachu picture of her is in a terran marine suit.

In their interview video she speaks english with chinese subtitles, I guess because she is from Taiwan and Razer intends to simultaneously reach both the english speaking markets as well as the growing chinese markets of China, Taiwan and Asia.

She sure played the entire gamut of Blizzard games from Diablo to Warcraft to Starcraft of course. She talks about trying to craft your own creative strategies and attempt to figure out the execution of the start in Starcraft. She beat her brother’s friends in a 2 v 4, I guess its her brother and her v 4 of her brothers friends.

She says she can play 10 hours a day on weekdays and 4-5 hours a day on weekdays, which is quite a lot!

If you want to meet her, she invites you to challenge her on the US, EU and TW servers!

I guess you could go and tweet it to the world as it has 0 tweets when I checked, and only 30 facebook likes.

Starcraft Inception

I know I’m a bit slow to this, but only recently have I spotted this video on the history books of youtube.

It is basically the inception theme synced to different parts of cuts from Starcraft 2 and it was done really well, even to the you should dream a little bigger portion! If you’ve watched it then you can probably skip this post, but if not it certainly is worth a watch!

It does sort of remind me of the UP version of Inception that I saw a while back.

And apparently you can buy cobb’s inception totem now straight off on its own instead of getting the whole dvd box set or hunting ebay for the replicas.

Starcraft merchandise hub

There are quite a few starcraft merchandise spinoffs out there and it can get confusing. There are some hubs on starcraft merchandise however to break them down into different categories.

Gaming focus: If you play starcraft 2 intensively or plan to get a gift or starcraft present for someone who does the bread and butter of the game would be in either an ergonomic starcraft 2 gaming mouse or a starcraft 2 razer gaming keyboard. Both of these are pricey but would make a good addition to any sc2 gamer’s arsenal!

There are also the more random stuff like gaming headsets.

And of course this would include the game if you’ve not purchased it yet! If you’re looking to get a friend into the game, amazon is selling it at a pretty cheap price these days. Far far from the initially rather steep price. Even the collectible edition has come down in price for some places, although it would have appreciated in others.

You could also try to obtain a pre-order copy of Heart of the Swarm for a friend, if you know they would like it and aren’t buying a collector’s edition if there is one.

Non Gaming Focus: There are also many other forms of collectibles to do with starcraft 2! These can be T-shirts which are pretty run of the mill spin offs, to things like mousepads which I guess could come under the gaming focus. If you’re not really into starcraft 2 t shirts then there are things like starcraft 2 books for those interested in the backstory.

If you’re looking for a christmas guide you can check this starcraft 2 christmas gifts guide out, maybe it’ll help in preparing presents for your friends!

Unbuyable Stuff: While not really beyond the reach of money, some of these things require a more personal touch. This usually involves things like soft toys or plushies of starcraft units like a probe or home made stuff like cakes shaped in a starting base. These kind of stuff usually won’t be available to you unless you know someone who can make them!

Then again, you could learn to do it yourself. Or check if the makers are willing to custom make and design one for you, at a price…
